Sharpe’s Pottery Museum win funding from Innovation in Museum Displays project

November 12, 2013

Sharpe’s Pottery Museum was successful in winning funding from Innovation in Museum Displays project.

The aim of the project ‘Inspired by….’ is to produce a user-generated exhibition about Sharpe’s permanent collection, which in turn will encourage a three-way conversation with the museum, visitors and other visitors.

Sharpe’s will be working with a variety of pupils from Belmont Primary School. The participants will be encouraged to write/draw/ talk about/sing/produce a video/ reproduce their interpretation in clay/ use an another object (to be as creative as they can be) to express what they think/know/feel about an object in our collection, embracing the theme ‘Inspired by…’.

The final piece of work (in whatever format) will sit alongside the object, or if space doesn’t allow, through an AV unit in the space in both Sharpe’s temporary exhibition space, as well as their permanent displays. Sharpe’s will then encourage visitors to respond to what the young people have created, thus, developing a three-way conversation.

The exhibition is planned for February 2014.

So far, Sharpe’s have employed Chloe Osmond as their Creative Project Manager and will be planning exciting activities for local schools and visitors over the Kids Take Over The Museum Weekend on 22 and 23 November 2013.
