Lincolnshire Heritage Awards 2014 – Open for applications

March 6, 2014

The Lincolnshire Heritage Forum would like to invite you to enter one or more categories in this year’s Lincolnshire Heritage Awards.

This year the Forum is re-launching the Awards with new categories chosen by Forum members at the AGM last November. The Awards will celebrate all the wonderful work taking place in museums, historic houses and heritage sites across the county and reward best practice.

Below you will find everything you need to enter this year’s awards which will be judged in June by David Sleight (Dean of the Faculty of Media, Humanities and Technology, University of Lincoln), Emma Tatlow (Visit Lincoln Partnership Manager) and Steve LeMottee (Executive Director at East Midlands Museums Service). We are really fortunate to have such an excellent team of judges who will be able to offer participating museums additional benefits and support after the formal awards ceremony.

The Awards ceremony…

will be presented at Gainsborough Old Hall, on Thursday 10 July and Master of Ceremonies for the night will be Rod Whiting from BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Award winners will receive a plaque and significant local and regional promotion.

Why should you enter the Lincolnshire Heritage Awards?

Entering the Awards is an excellent way to raise the profile of your museum or heritage site and gain recognition for your volunteers and staff. The ceremony will be attended by local councillors, civic dignitaries, representatives of key funding organisations and local media.

This year’s award categories are:

  • Young People in Heritage, download the application form here.

  • Excellence

Thinking about applying? Here’s some ideas to get you started…

Think about all the different projects, exhibitions, events and other work you have been doing during 2012 and 2013 and enter as many categories as possible!

What has worked really well for your museum and your visitors; special events, open days, new exhibitions, community work, talks and lectures, collections projects, work with schools or other projects with young people?

Is my museum or heritage site eligible?

All Heritage Forum members are welcome to enter the Awards as an individual site or as a partnership between any number of organisations – project partners do not have to be Forum members, or heritage sites but the lead applicant must be a current Lincolnshire Heritage Forum member.

The Heritage Awards Ceremony is a great opportunity for Forum members to get together, catch up with friends and colleagues, share success, enjoy a magical evening and celebrate all the fabulous work taking place in museums and heritage sites across Lincolnshire.

‘Only in Lincolnshire’ – for a bit of fun, we would also like to invite you to submit a photograph with a brief caption showing off what you think is really special about your site e.g. cream teas, cake, garden, people, museum pet, most exciting object in the collection. These will be displayed at the Awards ceremony so that attendees can ‘vote’ for their favourites.

Please ensure that you have the permission of any people in these photographs to use their image. We want to create a bank of images that reflect what is special and lovely about Lincolnshire’s heritage sites. Please email your photographs to Anita Hollinshead at anitahollinshead@hotmail.com or to the Lincolnshire Heritage Forum at lincsheritageforum@gmail.com. The winner will receive a large box of chocolates to share with everyone at their site.

Have a question or need a hand?

If you need any help with your entry or wish to chat through a potential entry or idea then please call Anita Hollinshead on 07876 166 742 or email her at anitahollinshead@hotmail.com.

The closing date for entries will be Friday 9 May 2014.
