Let the public judge – gallery developments at Mansfield Museum

February 19, 2014

If you have been following the story, you’ll know that Mansfield Museum is at the beginning of a complete re-vamp of their Arcade Gallery.

The Arcade Gallery is a long, glass-roofed gallery leading down from the Museum’s front door. When finished, Industrial Mansfield will provide a fascinating overview of the industries which were for decades at the heart of the town.

The gallery will feature a series of semi-discrete sections – one for each of the town’s major manufactures. To give visitors an early insight into the plans a mock-up of one of the displays has been constructed. The mock-up has been temporarily installed for two weeks, during February, which includes the school half-term holiday.

The hope is that as many of the visitors as possible, will come down to Leeming Street and tell the staff what they think of the ideas, for what promises to be, an attractive new addition to the Museum. The mock-up will centre on Metal Box but will be representative of the new gallery as a whole. The newly recruited volunteers will be on hand to encourage visitors to comment on the ideas. A series of different questionnaires has been devised to cater for all age groups.
