Cotesbach Educational Trust are seeking to recruit a part-time Education Officer.

Cotesbach Educational Trust, based on the Cotesbach Estate in south Leicestershire, is an educational charity with a 50 year lease on three heritage buildings and 400 years’ worth of Estate archives. The Trust’s multi-purpose educational resource centre, which was officially completed on 29 March 2013, comprises an activity space/café, a temperate archive housed in the former Coach House, a toilet block in the old milking parlour, and a stunning Grade II listed Georgian Schoolhouse.

Our aim is to provide learning experiences to all on the broad subjects of Heritage, Environment, and the Arts. We aim to work with school groups mid-week using the rich resource of the archive to address all curriculum topics, and to offer learning experiences for all outside of those times.

We believe passionately in learning from the past to help us all enjoy a happy and sustainable future and we are now seeking an Education Officer with the knowledge and enthusiasm to help us achieve that aim.

The Role

14 hours a week, £22,500 pro rata (£9,000pa)

The Education Officer’s role is to deliver, develop, and co-ordinate the Trust’s school programmes and to support the community education programmes in conjunction with Trust volunteers. The post is based at the offices in Cotesbach. Key task during the initial phase of the post will be developing relationships with schools and other education providers to market our facilities and programmes for autumn term 2014.

Key Responsibilities

Operational

  • To devise, co-ordinate, and deliver education programmes to schools
  • To support the development and co-ordination of the Trust’s community education programmes
  • To ensure the Trust’s education offer to schools meets relevant Curriculum targets and includes resourceful follow up learning packs
  • To remain abreast of changes to the school curriculum by, for example, establishing education focus groups
  • To liaise closely with schools to plan their visits to CET and to follow up after visits for feedback
  • To work with the honorary heritage manager and archive volunteers to ensure engaging materials from the archives are included in education programmes where appropriate
  • To recruit and train volunteers to support the education programme
  • To support the implementation of an effective system of monitoring and evaluation
  • To work with the Project Director on funding bids to support the Trust’s education programmes.

Marketing and promotion

  • To work with the Project Director and volunteers to ensure that the programme of activities is marketed widely to CET target markets
  • To contribute to the design, development, and distribution of marketing materials including online
  • To represent the Trust at appropriate conferences and networking events
  • To support the Trust’s development of partnerships with similar organisations, local service providers, and other relevant interest groups.

General

  • An ability to thrive in a multi-tasking role and a flexible approach
  • An ability to muck in or take the lead role as befits the task at hand
  • An ability and willingness to work on your own using your own initiative
  • An ability to network and maintain strong working relationships with partner organisations locally and across the region
  • A willingness to travel to other locations to undertake duties associated with the role of education officer as required
  • To ensure that all CET activities operate within the Law (2006 Charities Act)
  • A commitment to CPD
  • To undertake any other activities that may be reasonably requested by the Trustees from time to time
  • The role will involve travel around rural areas so having your own transport is essential.
