Funding – Grants for Conservation of Manuscripts and Archives
National Manuscripts Conservation Trust are offering grants for conservation of manuscripts and archives.
The National Manuscripts Conservation Trust (NMCT) offers grants for the conservation and preservation of manuscripts and archives. The next deadline for the submission of applications is 1 October 2013 with results being announced in early December. If you want to plan ahead, the deadline after that is 1 April 2014.
Grant applications are welcome from Record Offices, Museums, University’s Archives or Special Collections sections, Cathedral Archives and Libraries, as well as owners of manuscripts that are exempt from capital taxation or owned by a charitable trust. National institutions in receipt of government funding are not eligible for our support.
Grants can cover conservation, binding and other preservation measures, including digitisation (providing it is part of a wider conservation project).
The significance of the collection that is the subject of a grant application and also the proposed conservation treatment are considered in detail. The National Archives provides an expert opinion on all application and this informs the Trustees’ considerations.
Among the current recipients of NMCT grants are the Record Offices of Essex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Powys, Cornwall and Warwickshire as well as the Universities of Bangor, Southampton and St Andrews. Other current grant recipients include the Fitzwilliam Museum, St John’s College and the Church of England Record Centre. The collections currently being conserved thanks to our support range from medieval manuscripts to engineering archives.
How do I apply?
Applications must be submitted on their application form, which you can download at www.nmct.co.uk.
