Funding: AIM Grant Schemes

March 29, 2014

AIM now operates five easily-accessible grant schemes to help members with sustainability, conservation, preventive conservation and training.

The AIM Sustainability Grant Scheme, the AIM Conservation Grant Scheme and the AIM Preventive Conservation Grant Scheme are generously supported respectively by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and The Pilgrim Trust. Both schemes have been extremely popular with members.

150 museum projects have been supported with Sustainability grants since 2006. Typical grant size is £3,000 to £5,000. Grants can be to help members generate more income or to look at organisational issues relating to their sustainability.

AIM Preventive Conservation Grants, run in association with its established Conservation Grants, has been set up to help small museums develop a more sustainable approach to the conservation and management of collections through improvements to preventive conservation within their museum. Typical grants are £3000 to £5000 though occasional larger grants are made.

AIM Training Grants provide small grants for individuals attending various training courses and schemes.

The National Heritage Landmarks Partnership Scheme is in its second year and will develop a high profile national project by creating a network of facilities whose history has been in some way involved in far reaching change instrumental in creating the nation as it is today. This investment will help transform derelict buildings and sites into inspirational resources, enabling the public to better understand the powerful tide of change brought about by our collective industrial past through the creation of a network of strategic projects that tell the stories of people, processes, industrial development and change.

Museums and industrial sites are invited to submit bids and expressions of interest for the third funding round, the closing date will be announced in May 2014. Up to 5 projects will be selected for partnership funding in each annual round, with a total of around £400,000 available.
