As part of MDEM’s Organisational Health programme we are delighted to be offering two museums access to board away day development support.
Many boards have an annual awayday which is usually a longer period for trustees to spend together to reflect and review the past and consider the future. Well-constructed and managed away days provide a clear view of the opportunities and challenges ahead and the chance for purposeful discussion of how to manage these. They allow for the development of board practice and culture, and a chance to take the long view away from day-to-day operations of the museum. However, to ensure this it achieved many boards seek external consultancy support to shape and run these events, which MDEM is pleased to be making available.
What will you get:
- Consultancy support from Organisational Health Advisor Heather Lomas to shape a board away day to ensure the activity achieves your strategic goals.
- Facilitation of your away day by Heather Lomas.
- Signposting to grants, including MDEM’s Small Grants, to help fund related activity or additional support.
What will you need to provide:
- A venue for the awayday, this can be at the museum, but it works well if it is somewhere without distractions; swapping venues with a museum local to you could be a cost-effective solution.
- A detailed conversation between the Chair and Heather to provide background and agree clear outcomes for the day.
- Refreshments and lunch for participants.
How to apply:
To be eligible for this opportunity your museum but be Accredited or working towards Accreditation and an independent museum in the East Midlands. We intend the activity to take place over the summer/autumn 2023 dependant on applicants need and MDEM capacity. As this work will be directly with the museum board, applications must be submitted by the Chair of trustees for applying organisations.
