Have your trustees considered moving your museum to an incorporated governance model?

MDEM are running two linked sessions which will explore the options for museum governance models with a particular focus on the pros and cons of museums adopting an incorporated model, including becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Part one – 14 April 2021 – 1pm-3.15pm

In session one Heather Lomas, MDEM Organisational Health Review consultant, will provide up to date and practical advice on reviewing your governance model and considering the available options for museums. Case study examples of museums who have recently moved to become Charitable Incorporated Organisations will be provided and there will be plenty of time for discussion.

Part two – 27 April 2021 10.15am – 11.45am

In session two we are joined for a quick-fire session by Robert Nieri, a solicitor with national firm Shoosmiths LLP specialising in advising charities. Robert will present an overview of the key considerations in the incorporation of charities as CIOs or charitable companies, including how to identify what types of assets you have and so what steps you may need to take – including seeking any approval from the Charity Commission – to transfer assets to an incorporated body.

Which sessions to attend?

We would recommend that all delegates attend both sessions, however you are able to sign up to either part 1 or part 2 individually as part of the booking process.

Who is this event for?

This is event is for museums who are interested in reviewing their governance model. It is primarily for Accredited museums and those Working Towards Accreditation in the East Midlands. If spaces are available 10 days before the event, then we may be able to offer to organisations outside of the region.
