Small Grants

Small Grants are available to support small-scale projects where funding has been difficult to source.

Purpose of Grant: To support small-scale projects where funding has been difficult to source.  Grants can directly support Accredited museums or those working towards Accreditation.

What the grant will fund: purchase of equipment and materials; training costs; match funding towards a purchase/ project/ short term temporary contract to advise or support an activity or development e.g. making a grant application/ running an event/ project management etc.

Eligibility: All museums must have completed the MDEM Business Diagnostic before submitting their application to identify areas of need that can be supported by Museum Development immediately and in the future.  This enables MDEM to understand where investment helps support longer term strategic/ organisational development.

Only accredited museums are eligible for support (and those that are listed with Arts Council as ‘Working Towards Accreditation’).

Match funding: We encourage all museums to demonstrate how they are match funding their grant from MDEM.  We request a minimum of 10% match funding which can be demonstrated in volunteer-time where appropriate.

How much can you apply for:  £250 – £1,500 per annum

When is the deadline?  Museums can apply from 1st May 2019, the grant closes on the 31st December 2019.

More information: Discuss your needs with the MDEM manager in advance of application – claire.browne@leics.gov.uk

You can find information about our Privacy Policy here.

Museum Commitment: By applying for a grant you are acknowledging that you will provide MDEM with grant case studies, complete the annual regional data survey and Business Diagnostic and provide supporting museum information (e.g. evidence of expenditure) when requested.
