Dealing with Mould @ Rutland County Museum

This one-day practical workshop will provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to deal with a mould outbreak and to deal with affected items.

The course will explain what causes mould, how to prevent future outbreaks and how to identify mould damaged items. It will look at the health hazards associated with mould and the steps to take to reduce this risk. It will provide hands on experience of how to deal with a mould outbreak and how to clean mould-infected items. The focus is on giving participants the practical skills, knowledge and confidence to treat mould damaged collections.

Lorraine Finch is an accredited conservator with over 25 years’ experience in conservation. She works with archives and specialises in the conservation and preservation of film, sound and photography. She has been employed in national museums and libraries, and for the last 15 years has run her own business, LF Conservation and Preservation. During this time, she has seen most things that go can wrong with archives and museum objects and has been involved in putting them right. Mould figures large in this list. Lorraine has dealt with many mould outbreaks both large and small. Mould is a very common in museums and archives.
