This online workshop will provide an introductory overview for managing sound archives and providing public access.

Many museums have sound recordings in their collections, ranging from a few old records or cassettes to more recent collections of born-digital sound files. Providing public access to these recordings demands a knowledge of how to deal with different sound formats. It raises issues around digitisation, cataloguing, and rights clearance. It means engaging with a wide range of methods of delivery to the public.

This course is run by the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage (UOSH) Midlands Hub team and is an introduction to all these issues. It focusses on what you can do to preserve and use the sound recordings sitting in your museum.

The UOSH project is run by the British Library with funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Click here for more information about the UOSH team and the project.

Who can attend:

This session is for all museums and heritage sites in the East Midlands who currently manage a sound collection.

Please note this workshop will be held on the online meeting platform Zoom. We will sending joining information out on the 8th March to all delegates.
