This one day course is designed for those without a background in the conservation and collection care of plastic objects in museum collections. The course will provide an introduction to plastic materials, outline a range of practical plastic identification techniques, and provide practical advice as to the storage, cleaning and labelling of historic plastic objects.
Participants will:
- Learn about plastic as a material and basic identification techniques.
- Have a better understanding of how plastics degrade and how this can be identified.
- Learn preventive conservation methods for dealing with problematic plastics.
