Conference

For the first time, a two day conference in the East Midlands will look at how museums and heritage organisations can thrive within a challenging and changing environment.

In this fast changing, uncertain time, museums can offer continuity and stability that anchor people to their communities. This conference will explore the latest report findings with keynote speakers from the Arts Council, National Museums Directors Council, Save the Children UK and Association for Independent Museums. External factors influencing the future of museums, such as continued reductions in public funding and the changing desires and experiences of our visitors and communities will be explored. Expert speakers, case studies and participatory workshops will suggest ways to face these challenges through marketing, fundraising and audience development.

There will be opportunities to network with colleagues from across the region, as well as engage with your local heritage forum and other heritage bodies.

Day 1 – 26th April:

Keynote Speakers

Tamalie Newberry: Executive Director , Association for Independent Museums

Tara Flannagan: Business Development Manager, National Holocaust Centre

Vic Langer: Director of Operations and Influencing – Save the Children UK

Claire Browne: Museum Development East Midlands – Regional Manager

Day 2 – 27th April:

Keynote Speakers

Sharon Heal: Director of Museums Association

John Orna Ornstein – Director of Museums, Arts Council England

Jonathan Platt : Head of Heritage Lottery Fund East Midlands

Katie Childs – Policy and Projects Manager – National Museum Directors’ Council

More detailed agendas will be avialble shortly. Each day will also feature local case studies and participatory workshops.
