Leicestershire and Rutland Heritage Conference 2019
This one day conference is the first of its kind for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The aim of the event was to bring together everyone who undertakes heritage activity in these areas to share best practice, hear about new initiatives and network with other heritage focused organisations. The event was funded by Leicestershire County Council and was run in partnership with Museum Development East Midlands.

The morning kicked off with a welcome by the Space Center, followed by an update from Leicestershire County Council, celebrating their diverse and impactful heritage provision. This was followed by a presentation from the Leicestershire and Rutland Heritage Forum on their recent governance review and information on how people can become involved in the organsiation.

The afternoon began with a presentation from the Participation Team at Leicestershire County Council, sharing the learning from the hugely successful Century of Stories programme.
Communities- Amazing Assets in Unexpected Places
This was then followed by a ‘Quick Fire Round’ which saw 8 organsiations spend 5 minutes updating the room on their heritage activity and opportunities for others to get involved.

The day had a strong emphasis on networking, with a free networking lunch provided to all delegates where there was an information market place with organisations such as the Heritage Trust Network and the Leicester Classics Hub amongst others.
Who was it for?
This conference was aimed at all staff and volunteers who are involved in the promotion, sharing and preservation of heritage in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This includes community groups, museums, universities and councils.
We are currently evaluating the success of the conference and welcome all feedback from delegates and speakers. It is hoped that this may become an annual event, led by the heritage community across the two counties.
