ISKCON Leicester – Heritage Advisor

The former HSBC Bank on Granby Street Leicester is now a community centre run by ISKCON. The building, one of Joseph Goddard’s masterpieces is currently on the Historic England risk register due to the poor condition of the roof. ISKCON are currently undertaking a fund raising campaign targeting £600,000 for a full overhaul of the roof. One of the strands of fund raising is to make an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund. Though the capital aspect of the bid to HLF is well defined, the project will need to develop heritage activities that engage with the wider community. We have identified heritage activities around the Goddard archives inherited by ISKCON. The project will include archiving, cataloguing and creating opportunities to show case the material as well as training volunteers. Though HLF advise 20% spend of overall bid money on heritage activities, a successful bid is based on the quality of heritage activities. Hence the project needs expertise in defining heritage activities.

Scope:

To support the bid writing

To advise on consultation process for heritage activities

To advise on the project heritage activities in line with the requirements of the HLF

Skills:

Experience of heritage activity development

Experience of successful HLF bids

Commitment:

Development of bid 2 hours a week

Once bid is written, a morning/afternoon workshop for internal feedback

Deadline for the bid is 25th May
