Want to be more creative in the way that you engage visitors with your displays to encourage response? Got an idea that you would love to turn into a live project?

You can apply for funding and support to make this happen.

Innovation in Museum Displays 2013-15 aims to engender, facilitate and share innovative practice in audience engagement and participation in East Midlands museums over two years.  Arts Council England (ACE) is funding this project through a Strategic Support Fund grant, enabling the Centre for Museums & Heritage Management at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and East Midlands Museums Service (EMMS) to provide funding, support and training to help you to devise and implement innovative activities.

Innovation in Museum Displays is…

The purpose of Innovation in Museum Displays is straightforward: to facilitate cost-effective, flexible, new ideas for your organisation around engendering visitor contributions and user-generated content, all part of the concept of a ‘three-way conversation’ between museum, visitors and other visitors.

Funding will be provided…

via annual application, for display/ interpretation projects and activities that break new ground for their organisation; with innovation, engagement and audience participation at the centre of each as the target area of practice. Emphasis is upon user-generated content and audience interactivity along with value for money and efficient stewardship of resources. There is strong focus upon evaluation of the product/process and outcomes, sharing of the results, and the potential for others to roll out their own projects by example.

Help and support are available for your application:

  • Do contact us as early as possible to discuss your idea, however vague it is at first
  • Don’t be modest: recognise the creativity in what you want to do
  • Do make sure that you can meet application criteria
  • Don’t forget: this is not a competition; all applications will be judged on their own merits

Please see the attached for an Application form and Help & Guidance notes
