Artists in Museums Development Programme – Next Steps

Artists in Museums Development Programme – Next Steps

The ‘Explore your options with Artists’ workshops have now taken place – ideas discussed, concerns addressed and questions answered.

The workshops proved to be a great opportunity to discover the scope and range of opportunities available for museums of all sizes to work with a wide range of artists, from painters and jewellery makers, and from theatre, to craft and circus skills.

About the Artists in Museums programme

The Explore workshops were just a taster to the main programme that MDEM aims to run next year (dependent on funding from Arts Council England) This bespoke support, learning and mentoring programme will be open to 10-12 museums in the East Midlands only.

Participating museums must be either Accredited or have working towards Accreditation status.

The programme, led by Fiona Mitchell-Innes, will aim to increase the knowledge of the participating museums on how working with artists can help you meet your objectives and increase visitor numbers to your Museum.

The programme will include a series of workshops, action learning sets and go see visits. Each part of the programme will be designed to meet your needs on working with artists, so by the end your knowledge and confidence in this exciting area will be increased. The programme will also include support for fundraising for these kind of programmes, so by the end you will be able to apply for funding to pay for exciting arts programmes in your museums. Museums will be supported to find artists, refine project ideas and to develop and submit successful funding applications to arts funders.

Would you like to find out more?

At this stage we are seeking expressions of interest only from museums. By putting your museums name down at this stage does not commit you to the programme, but may help out planning. So if you think your museum should be part of this programme please email Danni at MDEM.

Further information about the Artists in Museums development programme will be available later this Autumn and the programme aims to start in Spring 2015.

If you would like to add your museum or heritage site’s contact details to our Artists in Museums mailing list, please email danielle.kennell@leics.gov.uk.
