Depicting Derbyshire – We need your art!

September 18, 2018

Do you have any eighteenth-century depictions of Derbyshire in your collection? If so, then Buxton Museum and Art Galley wants to hear from you.

We have just launched a new website (www.depictingderbyshire.uk) which has been funded by a grant from the Paul Mellon Centre. The website brings together Derbyshire topographical works-on-paper, dating from 1700-1820. The aim is to create a ‘one-stop shop’ of Derbyshire views, which can be searched through keyword, via a map function or through a text search.

So far there are pictures online from the collections at Buxton Museum, Derby Museums, the Derbyshire Record Office and The Arkwright Society.

If you have any watercolours or sketches of Derbyshire dating from 1700-1820, or you would like further information about the project, please get in contact with Anna Rhodes, email anna.rhodes@derbyshire.gov.uk or phone 01629 533542.
