MA Tweet Up – October

Posted on October 4, 2016

Message from Simon Brown – Regional Museums Association Representative for the East Midlands:

We are very pleased that our next MA Tweetup for the East Midlands will be held at the University of Nottingham Museum on Wednesday 12th October 2016, from 6:45pm. This will be an informal networking event open to all museum practitioners in the region- MA members and non-members, tweeters and non- tweeters!

The University of Nottingham Museum is one of the foremost university museums in the country. They have an extensive collection of archaeology from Nottinghamshire and the wider east midlands on permanent display in a beautiful new space in the Lakeside complex at the University. The museum is currently hosting The Hunter from Naukratis, a British Museum spotlight tour exploring the encounter between the ancient civilisations of Egypt and Greece, Cyprus, Phoenicia, Persia and Rome. This is displayed alongside material from Nottingham City Museums and Galleries, as well as the museum’s own collection.

Clare Pickersgill, Keeper at the University of Nottingham Museum, has kindly offered to give a tour of the exhibition and the museum.

This is a unique opportunity to see a remarkable exhibition in a wonderful new setting for the museum, and to network with other museum professionals from the east midlands. We will meet at the front door of the museum for a 6:45pm start.

After the tour we will move to the Johnson Arms pub, a 5 minute walk from the museum, where there will be the opportunity to continue the conversation. All are welcome to join us there even if you are unable to make the tour.

If you would like to attend or have any questions, then please contact Simon Brown, MA representative for the East Midlands, at simon.brown@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or 07834 828107

The museum is on the edge of the campus of the university, accessible by many buses from Nottingham city centre. The tram stop for the university is directly outside, and is a 7-8 minute journey from the city centre. There is also free parking directly outside the museum.
