Safe Handling, Packing, Storage and Movement of Museum Collections
The day will begin with an introduction to collections care including creating the best possible museum environment and collections standards.
This will be followed by presentations, practical activities and informal discussions exploring how to handle, pack and move museum objects safely to minimise the risk of damaging collections and injuring museum staff, volunteers and visitors.
Delegates will learn about potential hazards in collections, protective clothing and equipment and how to choose the most appropriate materials for packing, storage and display purposes.
There will also be a tour of the Barrow Hill collections store.
Please feel free to bring along your own packing dilemmas if you would like to discuss them!
The training will be led by Anita Hollinshead, Regional Collections Adviser for MDEM. All participants will receive a pack of additional information and handouts. .
Who is this day for?
The course is suitable for staff and volunteers who are new to the area of collections care or who would just like to refresh their knowledge
