Is your museum thinking about setting up an online shop?
Or considering selling prints and other merchandise through a third party website?
This workshop will ask…
- Whether an online museum shop can make a profit
- How online shops work alongside physical shops
- What sells well online – and what doesn’t
- How long it takes – and what skills are needed – to
- set up the shop
- develop and maintain stock
- promote the shop
- convert visitors to customers
- prepare and despatch orders
- keep records
- etc.
- Whether/when it’s worth outsourcing
- Where you can find out more
- How you can get started.
You’ll hear about…
- ‘Inspired Collections Retailing’ – a collaborative Arts Council funded project in which six museums in Derbyshire are investigating the option of establishing a joint online shop
- Low cost DIY solutions such as Shopify – as used by Derby Museums
- External print on demand services
… and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers.
Aimed at museums who are thinking seriously about online trading – alone or with others – this workshop follows on from an introductory e-commerce workshop run by MDEM in November 2015.
