Archive Relocation Training
Session Leaders:
Hazel Crozier, RAF Cranwell
Dustin Frazier Wood, Spalding Gentlemen’s Society & University of Roehampton
This training day will cover the process of planning and carrying out an archive relocation from start to finish. The first session will cover reasons for why and when archives might need to be moved, and the resources available to collections without access to professional conservators and archivists. It will also include training on how handle and package archive materials. The majority of the day will focus on a case study: re-locating the archives at the RAF College, Cranwell. This will include:
- Manual handling and risk assessment brief from the Station Health and Safety officer;
- Brief introduction to project: Why and Where;
- How to tender for archival racking and work with the company – including the building;
- Guidance on how to plan a collections move.
In the afternoon, trainers will lead participants in a hands-on session in which we will put the archive move plans into action.
