Sharpe’s Pottery – Consultant Tender

SHARPES POTTERY HERITAGE AND ARTS TRUST  – CONSULTANTS BRIEFING FOR SECURING THE FUTURE PROJECT

The Sharpes Pottery Heritage and Arts Trust (SPHAT), based in Swadlincote, Derbyshire wishes to commission consultants to provide a range of professional services to support the delivery of a major new project called Sharpes – Securing the Future.  This project is being funded by a Resilient Heritage Grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  It will begin in September 2018 and is to be completed by February 2020.

Consultants are encouraged to offer their own suggestions to achieve the aims and objectives desired from this project.

There are 4 key aspects of this project as follows:

1. Vision and Values Development:  Reference SP01

Consultant / s will assist the Museum team to define and develop the vision and values of the Museum, to support the creation of a 15-year strategic Masterplan which will be the focus for financial sustainability and cultural development.  The main deliverables for this aspect of the project will be carrying out desk-based research, delivering 3 half day workshops for Trustees, delivering a focus group with partners, running a final test session with Trustees and preparing a report.  At the end of the contract, the Consultant/s will be able to work with Trustees and staff to create key messages and launch the revised vision and values for the organisation.  A budget of £10,000 (plus VAT if you are VAT registered) for this work will include all travel and expenses. No additional costs will be included.

 

2. Skills and Development Training for Trustees and Staff: Reference SP02

Consultant / s will deliver a training programme that will help all of those involved with the organisation to make the best choices for the future and will support Board renewal and the creation of the 15-year strategic Masterplan.  The main deliverables for this aspect of the project will be to carry out desk based and active research, to deliver up to three “go and see” visits to improve skills and experience of Trustees, to organise a half day skills workshop with Trustees, to create a succession plan and associated Trustee role descriptions.  A budget of £16,060 (plus VAT if you are VAT registered) for this work will include all travel and expenses No additional costs will be included.

 

3. Sharpe’s   Pottery Museum Layout Options: Reference SP03

Consultant /s will consider and present options for different site layouts that could be implemented to improve visitor flow, engagement with the collections and income generation.  We require professional guidance to help the organisation to understand what is delivered now and the type of interpretative content that exists across the various spaces within the site.   The main deliverables for this aspect of the project will be to undertake research and observations; to hold focus groups with users and key stakeholders and to prepare an options report that could be considered by exhibition / interpretative designers and to present costed concept layout designs (<£50k, £ 50k to £100k and £100k to £200k), and an overall final report. A budget of £21,840 (plus VAT if you are VAT registered) for this work will include all travel and expenses. No additional costs will be included.

 

4. Project Evaluation: Reference SP04

We are seeking an experienced evaluator to keep a watching brief on all aspects of the project, to ensure that the collection, monitoring and evaluation of data are delivered to the agreed timetable and provide an appropriate body of evidence to support the outcomes of the project; to work with the project manager on evaluative reports and to produce a summative evaluation report at the end of the project.   A budget of £2500 (plus VAT if you are VAT registered) for this work will include all travel and expenses. No additional costs will be included.
