Workshop
Business Development partnership working

Museums are increasingly looking to improve and extend their partnership working with other organisations. Partnerships can support museums to reach out to new audiences, to develop new services for their visitors, to explore new ways to generate income and to imbed themselves more deeply within communities. Funders are also increasingly looking for organisations to be more outward looking, and able to demonstrate they are willing and able to work in partnership.

Developing successful links with organisations, whether other museums, local organisations, education, businesses or the wider arts and cultural sector contributes to building a sustainable museum – but sometimes knowing where to start, how to approach partners and what makes for successful partnership working can be hard to gauge. If your museum would like to do more partnership work this workshop would be perfect for you.

Delivered in partnership by MDEM and the EMMS Stronger Museum Programme this day will provide practical support, case studies and top tips to enable your museum to consider how it can maximise its partnership opportunities.

Speakers will include:

  • Nathaniel Hepburn, Director, Ditchling Museum
  • Hannah Steggles, Volunteers Officer, Cromford Mills
  • Sarah Teesdale, Researcher, Alford Manor House Museum
  • Katherine Lynch, Heritage Manager, Port Sunlight Village Trust

Case studies from a range of museums will enable a sharing of knowledge and experience on developing successful relationships with a range of different partners. This workshop session will:

  • Identify the key points for developing successful partnerships;

  •  Provide a range of relevant case studies
  • Enable discussion and contributions from all participants
  • Provide practical advice and top tips
  • Give you confidence that your approach has the best chance of success.

By the end of the session, we will help you to:

  • Identify appropriate types of partners for your museum to approach
  • Develop a partnership working action plan for your museum
  • Recognise successful approaches and avoid the pitfalls.

This event is for museums who are Accredited or Working Towards Accreditation. If you are unsure of your eligibility please contact sarah.spurrier@leics.gov.uk. To book you place click here.
