Chair of the Executive Board

EMMS are very pleased to announce that our new Chair is Tim Desmond, Chief Executive of the Egalitarian Trust which operates the Galleries of Justice Museum and the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law (NCCL) in Nottingham.

Tim is also an Area Board member of the Arts Council in the Midlands and of Experience Nottinghamshire, the city and the county’s destination management organisation.

Tim was elected by our Executive Board on 22 November, and he succeeds Wendy Golland who had chaired EMMS since 2002. “Wendy made an immense contribution to EMMS, guiding the organisation through many changes and challenges” said Tim.

“Today’s environment remains very challenging, but I firmly believe that museums are stronger when they work together – and with EMMS’ leadership we can create and take opportunities that will help the region’s museums to become even more successful and sustainable.”

Vice-Chair of the Executive Board

Tim’s previous role as Vice-Chair has been filled by Neville Stankley, Principal Lecturer and Employability Coordinator, at Nottingham Trent University. Neville is currently a member of Museum Development East Midlands’ Management Committee and Management Board and has provided consultancy support to many public and independent museums, including a nine year working relationship with Nottingham City Museums & Galleries.

“EMMS can play an important role in today’s cultural landscape, and I look forward to working with Tim, the other Directors and EMMS’ staff to develop a programme of activities that meets the needs of our members” said Neville.

New Directors

At our well-attended AGM in Leicester on 1 November we were pleased to announce the election of three new Directors: Darren Barker, co-founder and partner of cultural consultants Barker Langham; Matthew Constantine, Collections, Learning & Interpretation Manager at Leicester City Arts & Museums Service; and Delia Richards from Castle Donington Museum.
