Leicestershire County Council’s Green Plaque Award scheme has had a successful first year with the public nominating and voting for the local people and places they wanted to see honoured with an Award.
The first six recipients included a Dambuster pilot, a writer and comedian and a world-famous bellfoundry.
Now, there’s a chance to nominate the people or places for you’d like to see awarded a Green Plaque. You can nominate war heroes, local heroes and famous people, philanthropists and entrepreneurs, places with cultural or heritage connections, as well as buildings of historic or architectural importance.
You can nominate online at www.leics.gov.uk/greenplaques or fill in and drop off a form at your local library. The closing date for nominations is Friday 23rd January 2015 and you’ll get the chance to vote for the six finalists once we publish the shortlist in February 2015.
Details of how we evaluate nominations are available on the Green Plaques webpage. People commemorated in Green Plaques must have been deceased for at least 20 years.
