Kids in Museums – Take Over Day 2013

October 23, 2013

Museums, galleries and heritage sites across the UK are inviting children and young people to take over for the day.

Takeover Day is a celebration of children and young people’s contribution to museums, galleries and historic homes. It’s a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.

Take a look at the Takeover Day 2012 report and six new case studies to inspire you for this year’s event. Find out how putting young people at the heart of a museum makes it a vibrant and exciting place to be, and how working with young visitors in a slightly different way can bring fresh ideas and positive changes. Put the date on your calendar (22nd November 2013)and make a plan to get involved.

Here’s how Kids in Museums can help:

  • Online resources, including fact sheets, case studies and tips. Download and share these to help you plan your event.
  • Kids in Museum’s Takeover Day team can support with individual queries or advice, email your questions or ideas to takeoverday@kidsinmuseums.org.uk
  • Free ‘We’re Taking Over’ materials for all your children and young people taking part. These will be available to order from September – make sure you are on our Takeover Day mailing list to get the latest updates.
