The Museum of Leathercraft (MoL), Northamptonshire wishes to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic professional to play a major role in the next stage of its development.

Salary: £26,000-£27,000

The role

The museum is seeking an innovative and creative officer to develop audience engagement with the collection. To achieve this MoL are looking for a dynamic individual to develop and manage a team of volunteers to support all Museum of Leathercraft activity.

About the museum

The Museum, was founded 1946 and holds a collection of over 5,000 objects and archival material. The Museum is fully accredited and has secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to enable it to ensure that it is enjoyed by a wider audience. A key part of this initiative is the appointment of an Engagement and Collections Officer who will take responsibility for the care of the collection (including managing collections care) and deliver exhibitions, events and outreach activities to bring the collection to a wider audience. These activities will be delivered in partnership with Northampton Museum and Art Gallery and with the support of enthusiastic trustees and volunteers.

Applicant experience

Applicants should have a minimum of five years’ experience in museums together with a relevant degree or professional qualification. In addition they must have both a good understanding of curating exhibitions, developing events and outreach activities together with recruiting and managing volunteers.

The post, which will be based in Northampton, can be undertaken on a full or part-time basis with a minimum of three days per week. We can be flexible on the terms of the appointment and welcome applications from individuals who wish to fill the role either as an employee or a self-employed contractor. Any employment would be on four year fixed-term contract.
