Preservation of Archaeological Collections
The course will be delivered by Dr Cathy Daly and Dr Melina Smirniou from the Conservation Department at the University of Lincoln and will include lectures and practical hands-on activities based on the university’s teaching collections. Delegates will learn about the agents of deterioration for archaeological collections, storage and display considerations and how to approach cleaning. Practical activities will include handling and packing and basic cleaning.
The day will also include a tour of the conservation facilities at the university.
The course is designed for both museum employees and volunteers who have a role in caring for archaeological collections at their site. It is suitable for those who are completely new to museum work as well as those with some experience.
