Care of Archives and Ephemera Collections
The course will be led by Archive Conservator, Jane Pudsey, and will include short talks, discussion and practical demonstrations. Delegates will learn how archive materials interact with their environment; storage & display strategies; how to identify problems such as insect pests and structural weaknesses. Practical demonstrations will include inspecting, cleaning, handling, packing and display of archives, with an understanding of less than ideal conditions.
The day will also include a tour of the museum and archives on site led by Hazel Crozier, Curator of the RAF College Cranwell collections.
The course is designed for both museum employees and volunteers who have a role in caring for archival collections at their site. It is suitable for those who are completely new to museum work as well as those with some experience.
