Training
Accreditation collections SPECTRUM

The Accreditation Scheme sets out nationally-agreed standards, and enables museums to assess their current performance, as well as supporting them to plan and develop their services. This session will explore the benefits of Accreditation, and the requirements for Section Two: Collections.

Sarah Brown, Collections Trust, will explore museum documentation procedures with a focus on accountability and the SPECTRUM standard primary procedures. Over the past year Collections Trust have been working on a revised edition of the SPECTRUM collections management standard, following extensive consultation with the museum sector. This new edition, SPECTRUM 5.0, was launched earlier this year. Sarah will introduce key changes within this standard. We will also look at the requirement for Documentation Procedural Manuals.

Anita Hollinshead, the Regional Collections Advisor for MDEM will provide information and case studies specific to the East Midlands, with a look at associated MDEM support for accreditation and collections.

If possible, we request that attendees bring examples of the own Documentation Procedural Manuals.

This training is for those working towards accreditation, or for anyone wanting a refresher on the accreditation requirements.
