The day will begin with an overview of housekeeping in museums and heritage sites including creating a cleaning kit, simple cleaning techniques and pest management. Potential hazards in museum collections will also be identified and discussed.
This will be followed by a practical session exploring how to handle, pack and move museum objects safely to minimise the risk of damaging collections and injuring museum staff and volunteers.
The training will refer to the Accreditation Standard and Benchmarks for Collections Care.
The course will be led by Anita Hollinshead, and consist of a mixture of presentations, practical activities and informal discussions. All participants will receive a pack of additional information and hand-outs.
