Expresseum Poetics – ‘Three Houses Dreamed’ poetry workshop series
This miniature residency is part of the ‘Three Houses Dreamed’ poetry workshop series, brought to you by Expresseum Poetics. During this series, poet Mark Goodwin will accompany writers as they briefly reside in three resonant heritage houses.
Newarke Houses Museum
The Newarke, Leicester, LE2 7BY
Saturday 9 September, 6.30pm – 9.30pm
An evening of speaking and writing creatively … during which you will delve into an outside that is inside, as well as spend your time in the company of various parts of a house. You will also experience an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to the attic and its store of well time-travelled objects.
Calke Abbey
Calke Abbey, Ticknall, Derby, DE73 7LE
Saturday 4 October, 10.30am – 5pm
Twenty-five years ago Calke Abbey was transformed by being opened to the public. The National Trust at Calke Abbey says: ‘You might have aged but Calke hasn’t!’ To celebrate that, this special day-long workshop offers the chance to reveal a hidden house, from inside and out. ‘Wanderers’ will have the chance to experience the fascinating held-in-decay interior spaces of Calke Abbey, described by the National Trust as an un-stately home.
Poet Mark Goodwin, with assistance from National Trust staff, will guide you on a journey inside-&-outside this time-trapped yet transformational dwelling. Be prepared to encounter poetic materials and residues of dreams.
Wigston Framework Knitters Museum
Wigston Framework Knitters Museum, 42-44 Bushloe End, Wigston, Leicestershire, LE18 2BA
Saturday 18 October, 1pm – 4pm
An afternoon of speaking and writing creatively, that will allow you to briefly dwell in the large cottage that is numbers 42 to 44 Bushloe End. This 17th century cottage has steep and crooked steps, so be prepared to move physically, as well as imaginatively, through enchanting and historically vibrant spaces. (Please note: the workshop will focus entirely on The Master Framework Knitter’s House.)
Who are these workshops for?
All writers are welcome, from novice to experienced.
After the workshops
The poetic produce from this workshop will be shared via an e-pamphlet.
