8th Derbyshire Heritage Awards

The Derbyshire Museums Forum would like to invite you to enter one or more categories of the 8th Derbyshire Heritage Awards.

This year’s Awards will, once again, celebrate all the wonderful work taking place in museums, historic houses and heritage sites across the county and reward best practice. The Forum also welcomes entries from organisations that are not members of the Forum but that have undertaken heritage related activities, including Natural Heritage and Arts projects. The Forum committee have introduced a number of new award categories for 2014.

Please find below, all the information you will need to enter this year’s awards which will be judged in September by Joy Hales (Editor, Derbyshire Life Magazine), Dr Suzanne MacLeod (Director and Head of School of Museum Studies, University of Leicester) and Jim Dixon (Chief Executive, Peak District National Park Authority). We are really fortunate to have such an excellent team of Judges for 2014.

The Awards ceremony

The Awards will be presented at an evening ceremony at Derby Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 3 October. Andy Potter of BBC Radio Derby has kindly agreed to Compère the evening. Award winners will receive a plaque and significant local and regional promotion. Further details will be announced.

This year’s award categories are:

  • Behind the Scenes at the Museum’ – download the entry form here

  • Inspiration Award for the Best Special Project – download the entry form here

  • Young People in Heritage – download the entry form here
  • Reaching New Audiences – download the entry form here
  • Excellence – this category will be selected from all of the entrants to the categories above.

Please have a think about all the different projects, exhibitions, events and other work you have been doing over the past year (from 1 June 2013 to the present) and enter as many categories as possible! What has worked really well for your organisation and your visitors: open days; events; new exhibitions; community work; talks and lectures; collections projects; work with schools or other projects with children and young people?

Closing date for applications

The closing date for submitting your entries is Thursday 31 July 2014 at 5pm.

The annual Awards Ceremony is a great opportunity for all those involved in museums and heritage in Derbyshire to get together, catch up with friends and colleagues, share success, enjoy a magical evening and celebrate all the fabulous work taking place across the county.
